Kohima, April 5: The people of Nagaland came together to celebrate Easter Sunday with heartfelt prayers, sunrise services, and messages filled with hope, as churches and leaders throughout the state commemorated the resurrection of Jesus Christ with profound spiritual enthusiasm.
This occasion also signifies the end of Holy Week, which includes a time of special fasting and reflection that begins on Good Friday and culminates on Easter Sunday.
Across Nagaland, churches hosted special dawn services, with hymns resonating through the hill towns as congregations gathered in their traditional attire.
In Kohima, the Kohima Baptist Pastors' Fellowship (KBPF) organized a sunrise service at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground), attracting a large turnout from various congregations.
The service commenced at dawn, featuring hymns like Christ the Lord is Risen Today and Christ Arose, along with choir performances and scripture readings.
During the Easter message, Rev Ruokuovilie Sachu, president of KBPF, emphasized the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the cornerstone of Christian faith and the ultimate triumph over sin and death.
He encouraged believers to stay strong in the face of increasing social, political, and spiritual challenges, urging them to embody their faith beyond the confines of church.
Rev Sachu also affirmed that Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life," asserting that He is the sole answer to the issues faced by individuals and society.
The service concluded with prayers and blessings, as the themes of hope, redemption, and new life echoed throughout the state, making Easter a celebration of faith and renewal in this predominantly Christian region.
Governor Nand Kishore Yadav extended his greetings, expressing a wish that the occasion inspires hope, renewal, and peace, bringing joy and blessings to everyone.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio remarked that the day honors the risen Christ and the promise of redemption and new beginnings, hoping it renews faith and leads people toward peace, purpose, and compassion.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton described Easter as a celebration of life triumphing over death and a reminder of God's infinite mercy, encouraging people to walk in love, humility, and righteousness.
