Cyclist Pays Tribute to Zubeen Garg on Journey from Lakhimpur to Sonapur

Biswanath, Sept 16: Armed with an old bicycle and a dotara slung over his shoulder, Saiful Islam has been cycling from Naoboicha in Lakhimpur district to Sonapur for the last three days.
His goal is Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur, where he intends to pay homage to the late Zubeen Garg as Assam commemorates a year since his passing.
“I plan to honor him with a gamusa and, if possible, perform a song at Zubeen Kshetra with my dotara,” he expressed.
Initially, Islam intended to walk the distance, but realizing it would take 10 to 15 days, he opted for cycling instead due to time constraints.
The journey has presented its challenges; his bicycle faced mechanical issues, and he lacks stable food and lodging arrangements.
“I’ve received assistance from locals. Some roadside eateries have been providing meals, and I’ve been sleeping outdoors,” Islam shared.
He mentioned that he has yet to determine where he will rest during the remaining part of his journey. “I’ll figure it out as I go; nothing is set in stone yet,” he noted.
Regarding the ongoing calls for justice related to Garg’s death, Islam remarked that justice cannot be demanded. “We cannot force justice. He is our cherished idol, and he lives in our hearts, regardless of the justice he receives,” he stated.
Islam’s trek is significant as it leads up to September 19, marking a year since the beloved icon's demise. For him, reaching Zubeen Kshetra is a chance to pay tribute to the artist who remains dear to him.
