Smriti Mandhana Makes History with T20I Century as India Dominates England
Historic Achievement for Smriti Mandhana
In a remarkable achievement, Smriti Mandhana, the stand-in captain for India, has become the first Indian woman to score centuries across all three formats of cricket. She accomplished this milestone by hitting a century in just 51 balls during the first T20I against England in Nottingham, marking her inaugural T20I century.
On Saturday, Mandhana delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 112 runs off 62 balls, which included 14 boundaries and 3 sixes. This impressive innings propelled India to a total of 210, their second-highest score in T20I history, following their 217/4 against West Indies in December 2024. Mandhana surpassed her previous best score of 87, becoming only the second Indian woman to achieve a T20I century, following Harmanpreet Kaur's 49-ball century in 2018. Despite a slow start from Shafali Verma, who managed only 20 runs off 22 balls before being dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone, Mandhana's explosive innings ensured India crossed the 200-run threshold.

India's Commanding Victory Over England
In the first T20I at Trent Bridge, the Indian women's team secured a convincing 97-run victory against England. Smriti Mandhana's exceptional innings of 112 runs off 62 balls, complemented by Harleen Deol's quickfire 43, helped India set a formidable total of 210/5. This score is notable as it ranks as India's second-highest in T20I matches.
In response, England struggled, collapsing to 113 runs in just 15 overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the standout performer for England with 66 runs, but debutant Shree Charani's remarkable bowling performance of 4 wickets for just 12 runs dismantled the English batting lineup. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav also contributed to the bowling attack, while Richa Ghosh showcased her skills with a sharp catch and a stumping. India's performance highlighted their strength, particularly in spin bowling, and set a strong tone for the five-match series, even in the absence of regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
