Smriti Mandhana's Rise in Rankings
Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has made significant strides in the ICC Women's ODI rankings, now securing the second position. Her impressive performance was pivotal in India's recent triumph in the triangular series held in Sri Lanka. Mandhana is now setting her sights on claiming the top spot.
Previously ranked as the number one ODI batter in 2019, Mandhana scored 264 runs across five matches in the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka and South Africa, making her the second-highest run-scorer of the series. In the final against Sri Lanka, she delivered a stellar performance, scoring 116 runs off 101 balls, and is now just 11 rating points behind South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt, who currently leads the rankings.
Wolvaardt managed only 86 runs during the triangular series. Sri Lanka's captain, Chamari Athapaththu, solidified her position in the rankings by scoring 139 runs in the series, moving up two spots to seventh place. Additionally, India's Jemimah Rodrigues improved her ranking by five places to 15th, while South Africa's Chloe Tryon climbed nine spots to 18th.
Moreover, Indian spinner Sneha Rana, who was named the best player of the triangular series, has also seen an improvement in the bowlers' rankings, where England's Sophie Ecclestone holds the top position. South Africa's fast bowler Nadine de Klerk has moved up one spot to 24th. Sneha, who took 15 wickets at an average of 14 in the series, has advanced four places to 34th.
In the ODI all-rounder rankings, Australia's Ashleigh Gardner remains at the top, while India's Deepti Sharma has gained one position, now sitting in fifth place. Both Tryon and de Klerk have also made gains, moving up three and four spots to 11th and 12th, respectively.
