Smriti Irani's Name Removed from Amethi Panchayat Voter List
Controversy Surrounds Voter List in Amethi
In a surprising turn of events, Smriti Irani's name has been omitted from the panchayat voter list of Medan Mawai village in Amethi district, despite her inclusion in both the Lok Sabha and assembly voter lists for the area. District Magistrate Sanjay Chauhan confirmed this development and stated that an investigation has been initiated regarding the matter. Smriti Irani, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has represented Amethi in the Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024 and established her residence in Medan Mawai village after winning the 2019 elections.
As a registered voter in the village, Irani participated in the Lok Sabha elections. The issue came to light following the publication of the panchayat voter list on June 10, which did not include her name. When questioned about the reasons for the removal, the District Magistrate mentioned that an inquiry has been ordered, and the true reasons will be clarified once the report is available.
Sudhanshu Shukla, president of the BJP's Amethi district unit, stated that an application has been submitted to include Irani's name, and the matter has been brought to the attention of senior officials. He added that officials assured that her name would be added after proper verification. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani faced defeat against Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma.
