Smriti Irani Dismisses Claims of Growing Divide Between Gen Z and Modi Government

Government's Response to NEET Protests

Senior BJP leader and former Union Education Minister Smriti Irani has rejected assertions suggesting that the protests against the NEET paper leak indicate a widening gap between Generation Z and the Modi administration. She emphasized that the central government has swiftly addressed the issue through legislation, dialogue, and direct communication from the Prime Minister.

Irani pointed out that the passage of the anti-paper leak law in Parliament and Prime Minister Modi's recent appeal to students via Instagram demonstrate the government's sensitivity to the concerns of the youth, rather than indifference.

No Separation Between Youth and Government

When questioned about whether student-led protests signify a growing divide between the youth and the government, Irani refuted this notion, arguing that the government's actions contradict such claims. She noted that the Parliament passed the anti-paper leak bill after extensive discussions, and the message conveyed by the Prime Minister to the protesting students is a testament to constructive collaboration.

Irani criticized the idea that the issue was merely addressed superficially, stating that it is a significant disrespect to Parliament. She further mentioned that the government has taken proactive measures by forming a task force, enacting laws, and engaging directly with young citizens. Additionally, she accused certain media outlets of focusing excessively on protests at Jantar Mantar while neglecting similar movements in other regions, particularly in Jharkhand.
