Sirmaur RTO Uncovers Duplicate Registration Numbers in Illegal Dumping Operation

Significant Discovery by RTO in Sirmaur
Nahan: A significant operation by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Sirmaur district revealed a case of duplicate vehicle registrations linked to overloaded dumpers transporting mining materials.
The initiative was spearheaded by RTO officer Sona Chandel, who, while heading to a government event in Shillai, observed suspicious activities along National Highway 7 near Bohliyon.
To her astonishment, two dumpers with identical registration numbers — HR58C-0099 — were spotted operating just a short distance apart on the highway. An inspection revealed that both vehicles were transporting mining materials well above their legal limits.
One Dumper with Multiple Plates
The situation escalated when one of the dumpers was discovered to have four different number plates, suggesting an intention to mislead authorities. The plates included HR58D-3618, HR58E-7426, and HR58D-3366, in addition to the duplicated HR58C-0099. This incident indicates a broader issue of regulatory violations within the mining transport industry.
Immediate Fines and Police Notification
Both dumpers were fined on the spot for overloading, and the case has been forwarded to local police for further investigation. Authorities suspect a larger scheme involving the alteration of registration numbers to evade road safety, environmental, and transport regulations.
The RTO team maintained their vigilance and took further action in Paonta Sahib, where three additional dumpers were penalized for exceeding their permitted loads. Furthermore, five tractor-trailers carrying overloaded timber were also intercepted.
