Sikkim Mahananda Express Derails in Bihar: What Happened?

Incident Overview

Patna: In the early hours of Sunday, two coaches of the Sikkim Mahananda Express, which was en route to Delhi, derailed at Ara Junction in Bihar, according to a senior railway official.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the derailment, which took place around 4 AM, although it did cause some disruption to rail services.

Saraswati Chandra, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railways, stated, "The derailment happened shortly after the train departed from Ara Junction. Thanks to the train's slow speed and our safety protocols, there were no casualties or injuries."

Initial investigations indicate that the derailment was likely caused by the driver overshooting a red signal. However, a comprehensive inquiry will be conducted to clarify the exact reasons behind the incident.

The CPRO also mentioned that the downline services were unaffected, and the train resumed its journey from Ara Junction at approximately 7:23 AM.
