Goat Exports Surge During Eid-al-Adha
On the occasion of Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid), Rajasthan has witnessed a remarkable increase in goat exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Over the past ten days, approximately 9,350 goats have been transported by air from Jaipur to Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, highlighting the high demand for Rajasthani breeds during the festive season. The exported goats belong to three distinct breeds: Shekhawati, Sirohi, and Bikaneri. These breeds are highly sought after in Gulf countries due to their quality and health. This significant export volume underscores Rajasthan's potential to become a leading exporter of goats in the future.
Which Goat Breeds Are Exported to the UAE?
The three types of goats being exported each have unique characteristics. The Shekhawati breed serves dual purposes, primarily for dairy but also suitable for meat. Sirohi goats thrive in bushy and arid vegetation, making them ideal for dry regions, and are raised for both meat and dairy production. The Bikaneri breed is known for its disease resistance and can thrive in harsh environments. Like Shekhawati, Bikaneri goats are also dual-purpose, used for dairy products and milk production.
Details of the Export Operations
Notably, each cargo flight carried between 450 to 950 goats, with individual weights ranging from 500 kilograms to 15,000 kilograms, reflecting the scale of this export initiative. The first shipment departed on May 1, 2025, marking the commencement of this year's export activities. The increasing frequency of direct flights from Jaipur to Gulf countries is establishing the city as a crucial hub for goat exports, presenting significant opportunities for Rajasthan's livestock industry and contributing positively to the local economy.
