Significant Reforms in Food Security Scheme Benefit Millions in Rajasthan
Major Improvements in Food Security Initiative
Jaipur, April 10. The state government has made substantial enhancements to the food security scheme, providing relief to millions in need. To date, over 9.3 million eligible beneficiaries have been integrated into the food security program, allowing them to receive free rations.
This initiative aims to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only those who genuinely require assistance.
How Were So Many Beneficiaries Added?
In 2024, the government filled gaps under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), adding approximately 1.3 million new eligible beneficiaries.
To further include more needy individuals, the “Give It Up Campaign” was launched, which created numerous vacancies in the scheme.
Impact of the Give It Up Campaign
This campaign, inspired by Narendra Modi, commenced on November 1, 2024. Under this initiative:
- Approximately 5.54 million affluent families voluntarily relinquished their food subsidies.
- Over 2.7 million beneficiaries failed to complete e-KYC, resulting in their removal from the list.
These actions led to a significant number of vacancies, allowing new needy individuals to be included.
A Major Step Under the Chief Minister's Guidance
On January 26, 2025, the food security portal was relaunched under the leadership of Bhajanlal Sharma.
Following this:
- More than 8 million new eligible beneficiaries were added to the scheme.
- In total, over 9.3 million individuals have benefited since December 2023.
Minister's Statement
The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sumit Godara, stated that the government's objective is to ensure that the scheme's benefits reach only the eligible individuals.
He explained:
“By removing ineligible beneficiaries and including those in genuine need, the scheme has become more transparent and effective.”
Current Status
Currently, over 44.2 million individuals in the state are receiving free rations under the food security scheme.
Conclusion
This initiative by the government is regarded as a significant step towards social justice. By removing ineligible individuals and adding those who qualify, the scheme has not only strengthened its framework but also ensured that assistance reaches the right people at the right time.
