Young Woman's Health Improves After Hospitalization
Following a protest incident in the city, a 21-year-old woman was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in critical condition on July 20. After extensive critical care management, her health has shown considerable improvement.
The hospital reported that upon admission, she was stabilized in the emergency department and subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she required ventilator support. After consistent clinical improvements, she was successfully weaned off the ventilator. After spending a week in the ICU, she was moved to a nursing home ward for further recovery and rehabilitation. On the tenth day of her hospitalization, the patient was fully conscious, alert, able to communicate effectively, and physically stable. She is now eating normally, can walk without assistance, and is managing her daily activities independently. Given her positive recovery and stable condition, the hospital has discharged her today with necessary medical advice and follow-up instructions.
Protests and Police Response
On July 20, a large number of students participated in the 'Chalo Parliament' march, resulting in injuries to hundreds, including both police officers and protesters. Reports indicate that the police used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd, which had gathered to demand accountability for the NEET paper leak and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Pradhan resigned from his position on July 25, but the opposition has strongly criticized the police's actions against the protesters during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. Previously, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, called for an independent, high-level committee under the Supreme Court's supervision to investigate the alleged police actions against student protesters.
Calls for Investigation into Police Actions
In a post on social media, Gandhi reiterated the demand for a fair investigation into the alleged use of force against students during the protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. He stated that students deserve justice and emphasized the need for an independent high-level committee to investigate the brutality faced by students. Gandhi also shared a video showing police actions against the protesters, which depicted officers charging at demonstrators, along with footage of an individual in plain clothes forcefully throwing a student protester to the ground while holding an Indian flag.
