Significant Progress in India's Fight Against Naxalism: Amit Shah
A Major Step Towards a Naxal-Free India
On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced a significant achievement in the fight against Naxalism, following the elimination of six Naxalites in a major operation in Odisha's Kandhamal district. In a post on social media, Shah highlighted that this operation marks a substantial victory in the battle against left-wing extremism, bringing Odisha closer to being completely free from Naxal activities.
Shah emphasized that this success is a crucial milestone towards a Naxal-free India. The operation resulted in the deaths of six Naxalites, including Ganesh Uike, a member of the central committee.

He further stated that with this achievement, Odisha stands on the brink of completely eradicating Naxalism. Reiterating the government's commitment, Shah declared that the administration is determined to eliminate Naxalism from the country entirely, aiming to achieve this by March 31, 2026.
Ganesh Uike, who had a bounty of ₹1.1 crore on his head and was the leader of the banned organization in Odisha, was killed during a security forces operation that began Wednesday night and continued into Thursday morning. He was a prominent leader of the banned CPI (Maoist) and had a long history of orchestrating attacks against security personnel and civilians. Historically, regions including Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and parts of Telangana have been affected by left-wing extremism. However, in recent years, there has been a consistent decline in Naxal-related violence in the state due to ongoing operations by central and state security forces, improved intelligence coordination, and focused development initiatives in remote and tribal areas.

The central government is adopting a multi-faceted strategy to combat Naxalism, which includes robust security measures alongside development initiatives such as improved road connectivity, mobile networks, banking facilities, and the distribution of welfare services in affected areas. The establishment of leading operational bases and increased inter-state coordination have further strengthened anti-insurgency efforts.
