Significant Hike in LPG Cylinder Prices Effective May 2026
Price Increase for Commercial and Small LPG Cylinders
Starting May 1, 2026, the government has announced an increase in the prices of commercial cylinders, along with a notable rise in the cost of 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders. The price for each small cylinder has surged by ₹261.
Last month also saw an increase in the price of small gas cylinders. In April 2026, the cost of the 5 kg cylinder rose by ₹51, but this time the increase is significantly higher at ₹261 per cylinder. Notably, there has been no price hike for domestic cylinders.
How to Obtain the Small Cylinder
This cylinder is specifically designed for individuals who require gas in smaller quantities or frequently move from one location to another. Under this scheme, Bharat Petroleum offers the Bharat Gas Mini, and Indian Oil provides the Indane Chhotu, both available in 5 kg sizes. A major advantage is that no address proof is required for purchase; customers can easily buy it using any valid government ID such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, PAN card, or driving license.
Impact on Hotels and Restaurants
The prices of commercial cylinders used in hotels and restaurants have seen a substantial increase over the past year. In April, the prices rose again, and this month has continued the trend. This year, the cost of commercial gas cylinders has escalated significantly. At the beginning of the year, the price was ₹1669, but by May 1, it has jumped to ₹3099, marking a total increase of ₹1430. Monthly increments include ₹111 in January, ₹49.50 in February, ₹141.50 in March, and ₹195 in April per cylinder.
