Significant Funding Boost for Jaipur's Air Quality Improvement
Financial Support for Air Quality Enhancement
Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, has received a substantial financial boost of ₹344.70 crores from the 15th Finance Commission aimed at improving air quality. This information was shared by the state government during a session in the assembly on Thursday.
According to the report, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is providing financial assistance to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation through the 15th Finance Commission, which has so far allocated ₹344.70 crores for air quality enhancement in the city.
Advancements in Electric Vehicles
State Environment Minister Sanjay Sharma emphasized that the coordinated efforts of both the central and state governments, along with the promotion of electric vehicles and green development initiatives, are expected to lead to significant improvements in Jaipur's air quality.
During the question hour, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari are fully committed to promoting electric vehicles, which is gradually steering the country away from petrol-based vehicles. The increasing adoption of electric vehicles is anticipated to help mitigate pollution issues.
Green Initiatives and Pollution Sources
Sharma also mentioned that under the National Clean Air Program, a green belt has been developed through plantation over an area of 21.7 square kilometers in Jaipur.
To identify the major sources of air pollution, IIT Kanpur conducted a source identification study. The findings indicate that the primary contributors to pollution in Jaipur include dust generated during road and building construction, emissions from vehicles and industries, burning of solid waste, and the use of diesel generator sets.
