Siddaramaiah Denies Chairmanship of AICC OBC Advisory Council

Clarification on OBC Council Appointment

On Sunday, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed reports suggesting he has been appointed as the chairman of the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) Other Backward Classes (OBC) Advisory Council.

In a statement shared on X, Siddaramaiah clarified that he is a member of the OBC Advisory Council but has not yet received formal confirmation regarding this role.

Willingness to Accept Responsibility

He previously denied claims of being the chairman of the AICC's Backward Classes Advisory Committee, stating that his role is limited to hosting a meeting in Karnataka.

Siddaramaiah expressed his readiness to take on responsibilities if directed by the party's leadership, saying, "If the high command assigns me a role, I will accept it without hesitation."

Upcoming Advisory Committee Meeting

He mentioned that the Advisory Committee will convene under Dr. Anil Jaihind, the head of the AICC Backward Classes Department, on July 15 at the Bharat Jodo Bhavan in Bengaluru. Siddaramaiah will host this meeting, which is expected to include around 50 attendees, such as former Congress chief ministers, current and former MPs, and MLAs.

Later, while speaking to reporters in Hubballi, he indicated plans to discuss his role in the committee with the party's high command, stating, "I will consult with the High Command today. They instructed me to hold a meeting in Karnataka. I am uncertain about why I was designated as Chairman. Will I shy away from responsibility if given?"
