Shubman Gill Takes Charge as India's New Test Captain Ahead of England Series

A New Era Begins for Indian Cricket
London [UK], June 11: Shubman Gill, the newly appointed Test captain of India, has recently been in the spotlight as the team gears up for a challenging five-match Test series in England, signaling the start of a fresh chapter.
With the recent retirements of seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, India finds itself in a position where experience is lacking. In light of this, the management has opted to embrace youth, marking a significant transition. Consequently, the captaincy has shifted from Rohit to Gill.
โLadies and gentlemen โ meet your Test captain, Shubman Gill,โ the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on X, sharing several images of the 25-year-old.

Since his arrival in England last week, Gill has been diligently preparing, facing the fierce bowling of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh, a member of India's fast bowling lineup, noted that Gill seems to be in โgood form.โ
Shortly after his captaincy announcement, Gill expressed his feelings of being โoverwhelmedโ in a video shared by the BCCI, stating, โAs a young boy, every cricketer dreams of representing India, especially in Test cricket. Receiving this opportunity is a tremendous honor, and it comes with significant responsibility.โ
The five-match Test series against England is set to commence on June 20 in Leeds and will continue until August 2025. With the absence of batting stalwarts Rohit and Virat, the newly formed team under Gill's leadership faces the challenge of proving itself in the demanding English conditions.
The matches will take place from June to August 2025 at various venues, including Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
India's Test squad for the England series includes: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav.
