Shubman Gill, the captain of India's ODI and Test teams, stated that there has been no conversation among the players regarding the possibility of Rohit Sharma's retirement during the third ODI against England at Lord's. He emphasized that Rohit has not shared any intentions about his future with the team.

Rohit Sharma's Record-Breaking Performance

Despite the speculation surrounding his retirement, Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian to score an ODI century at Lord's, amassing 138 runs off 110 balls. Unfortunately for India, this remarkable achievement was overshadowed by their 27-run defeat, as they could only reach 360-7 in response to England's 387-3.

Gill's Comments on Rohit's Innings

During the post-match press conference, Gill addressed the rumors about Rohit's future, clarifying that the veteran player had not communicated any retirement plans. "He hasn't told us anything. I think it's all out in the media, but there's not been any discussion like that in the team," Gill remarked when questioned about the possibility of this being Rohit's last ODI.

In the match, India faced a daunting target of 388 runs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill formed a solid opening partnership, contributing 147 runs together. Rohit showcased his classic batting style, scoring 138 runs, which included 17 fours and five sixes, marking his 34th ODI century. Gill supported him well with a steady 77 runs. Rohit's score is now the highest by an Indian against England in England, surpassing his previous record of 137 at Trent Bridge in 2018.

Gill commended Rohit Sharma's exceptional innings, noting how well he paced his performance. He mentioned that their strategy during the chase was to conserve wickets before launching an aggressive approach later. "The way Rohit bhai paced his innings was outstanding. Most of the time, I was at the non-striker's end just watching him bat. Our discussions were mainly about keeping wickets in hand because that was the only way we could chase such a big total," Gill explained.
