Shubhendu Adhikari Takes Oath as West Bengal CM Amid Emotional Moments
Historic Oath Ceremony in West Bengal
In a significant event for West Bengal, Shubhendu Adhikari has officially taken the oath as the Chief Minister today. This momentous occasion has been etched into the state's history. Prime Minister Modi was present at the ceremony, which was filled with enthusiasm from the attendees. Among the formal proceedings, a heartwarming moment captured everyone's attention.
As PM Modi arrived on stage, he warmly greeted an elderly gentleman by touching his feet to seek blessings. The Prime Minister embraced him for an extended period, which moved the elderly man to tears. This touching moment has become a hot topic on social media.
Who is Makhanlal Sarkar?
Investigations revealed that the elderly man is none other than 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the senior pillars of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bengal. He has been actively involved in grassroots nationalist movements since India's independence. In 1952, he participated in the movement to hoist the national flag in Kashmir alongside Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, during which he was imprisoned. After the BJP's formation in 1980, he played a crucial role in establishing the party in North Bengal districts, connecting over 10,000 individuals to the party within just one year. He served as the district president for seven consecutive years starting in 1981, a significant achievement according to the organizational norms of that time.
A New Era in Bengal
The ceremony held at Brigade Parade Ground marked the formal beginning of BJP's governance in Bengal with Shubhendu Adhikari's oath. By giving a platform to veteran workers like Makhanlal Sarkar and showcasing PM Modi's respect towards them, the party conveyed a strong message about valuing its dedicated 'old guards'.
