Commitment to Curb Violence and Corruption
New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari has asserted that once a new government is formed, strict measures will be implemented to control criminal activities. He emphasized that necessary actions will be taken against goons, stating that the era of corruption and lawlessness will come to an end. Adhikari, who is considered a contender for the Chief Minister position, highlighted that during the TMC's rule, 500 false cases were filed against their party workers, with 400 of them imprisoned.
While visiting Nandigram, he expressed gratitude to the local populace for electing him as MP twice and as an MLA three times, mentioning that he previously defeated the Chief Minister in the elections. He stated, 'I have come here to seek blessings from Bajrang Bali.'
Adhikari further declared that the new government will take decisive action against goons and corrupt individuals. He mentioned that there will be no victory parades in the next two to three days. After the government is formed, they will engage with the public through thank-you ceremonies, pending police approval. Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in West Bengal on Thursday evening. BJP sources indicate that a meeting of the legislative party will take place on Friday to decide the next Chief Minister. During this meeting, the state president, Samik Bhattacharya, will propose a name, which will be approved by other senior leaders.
According to BJP sources, a cabinet expansion is underway in Bihar, prompting Amit Shah to visit there first before heading directly to Bengal for the oath ceremony. Shah played a crucial role in the Bengal elections and will oversee the selection of the new Chief Minister. Prior to the legislative party meeting on Friday, Shah will hold another meeting with several senior leaders and core committee members to discuss the coordination between the government and the organization, as well as which leaders will be included in the cabinet.
Adhikari also mentioned that he plans to vacate one assembly seat within the next ten days. He stated that the party leadership will decide which seat he will relinquish and where he will continue as an MLA. He remarked, 'I will leave one seat in the next ten days. The party will determine which seat I should retain. I cannot forget my responsibilities towards the people of Bhawanipur and Nandigram.' Notably, he defeated Mamata Banerjee by a margin of 15,000 votes in the Bhawanipur constituency.
