Shreyas Iyer Declares IPL More Competitive Than EPL

Shreyas Iyer's Bold Claim

Following the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), Shreyas Iyer, the captain of PBKS, expressed his belief that the Indian Premier League (IPL) surpasses the English Premier League (EPL) in terms of competitiveness. This statement came after Delhi secured a victory over Punjab, a team that has already qualified for the playoffs this season. Iyer pointed out that the three teams currently in the playoffs—Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings—have all faced defeats against teams that have been eliminated in their recent matches. He emphasized that any team can triumph on their day.

Insights from Shreyas Iyer

Iyer remarked, "I believe it’s more significant than the Premier League. Every team is on an equal footing in this tournament. Maintaining a positive mindset and composure is crucial. There’s always a new day ahead. It’s important to focus on the present instead of fixating on past performances," he stated after the game.

Reflections on the Match

Regarding the match, Iyer commented, "I thought the score was impressive on this pitch. The surface was favorable for seam bowlers, with inconsistent bounce. I felt our total was above par." He further added, "We lacked discipline in our execution. After assessing the pitch in the first innings, we aimed to bowl hard lengths targeting the stumps. However, we strayed from our plan by attempting bouncers at times, which was unnecessary. This serves as a valuable learning opportunity for the team."
