Shresta Iyer Clarifies Viral Remarks on KKR After IPL 2026 Washout
Clarification from Shresta Iyer
Shreyas Iyer, captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), faced some backlash after his sister, Shresta Iyer, made comments regarding the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) following the rain-affected IPL 2026 match at Eden Gardens on April 6.
In the match, KKR batted first but lost two quick wickets, leaving them at 25/2 in just 3.4 overs. The game was interrupted by heavy rain and ultimately called off due to a wet outfield, resulting in KKR earning one point despite their consecutive losses.
Meanwhile, PBKS secured the top position in the IPL 2026 standings with five points, thanks to their two victories and the shared point from the washout.
Shresta's Playful Dig at KKR
Following the match's cancellation, Shresta Iyer shared a video on Instagram, seemingly poking fun at KKR for receiving a point. In her video, she humorously remarked in Punjabi about the Punjab Kings' generosity in giving away a point, which quickly gained traction on social media.
She stated, "Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point," which translates to a light-hearted comment about the Punjab Kings' big-heartedness.
Backlash from KKR Fans
Shresta's comments did not sit well with some KKR supporters, who perceived her remarks as disrespectful towards the franchise that her brother had previously captained, leading them to an IPL title in 2024. Shreyas Iyer had a successful stint with KKR from 2022 to 2025 before moving to PBKS.
Shresta Iyer's Response
In light of the criticism, Shresta Iyer took to her Instagram story to clarify her intentions. She emphasized that her comments were meant to be playful and not a personal attack on KKR or its fans.
She expressed, "Guys, I don't understand why the hatred is being spread. It's just a game. The videos are just for fun, and I am here to support my brother. No hate for any team, it's just a game. Everyone should take it sportingly."
Shresta further added, "I understand aggression. I wasn't trolling anybody. It was my way of celebration, and I am going to continue doing that. There were no personal attacks, just chill. Peace out, guys."
Shreyas Iyer's Leadership
Last season, Shreyas Iyer led the Punjab Kings to their first final since 2014, although they lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was brought back for INR 26.75 crore to captain PBKS in the current IPL season.
