Shopkeeper Shot Dead in Ballia District Dispute
Tragic Incident in Rasra
In a shocking incident in the Rasra police jurisdiction of Ballia district, a shopkeeper was allegedly shot dead following a dispute over purchasing goods. This information was confirmed by the police on Friday.
According to the authorities, all five suspects were apprehended within seven hours of the incident during a police encounter. The victim, identified as Santosh Singh, also known as Baghi, aged 48, operated a tea shop adjacent to a liquor store in the Raghopur village of Rasra.
The police reported that the fatal confrontation occurred around 10 PM on Thursday night as Singh was closing his shop and heading home. He was shot after an argument with some individuals regarding the purchase of items, sustaining gunshot wounds to his head and abdomen.
Alok Gupta, the Circle Officer of Rasra, stated that the body has been seized and sent for a post-mortem examination. Following a complaint lodged by the victim's son, Aditya Singh, a case has been registered against Praveen Singh, a resident of Sheikhpur village in the Kasimabad area of Ghazipur district, along with two unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The Circle Officer further mentioned that around 5 AM on Friday, a police team was conducting an investigation on Mundera Road in the Kotwali area to apprehend the suspects. During this operation, the suspects opened fire on the police team.
In response, the police acted in self-defense, resulting in the arrest of five individuals: Manjeet Singh, also known as Om Singh (27), Sandeep Singh, known as Golu Singh (23), Atul Singh, referred to as Babbu Singh (21), Prabhat Singh, known as Bunty (22), and Praveen Singh (27) from the Kasimabad area.
The Circle Officer noted that during the encounter, both Manjeet Singh and Sandeep Singh sustained gunshot wounds to their left legs and were admitted to the district hospital. The police have also recovered three motorcycles, a country-made pistol, and cartridges from the suspects. Further actions are underway.
