New Delhi. Reports have emerged of gunfire directed at three separate commercial vessels near Iranian waters in the Strait of Hormuz. According to sources, no crew members were injured during these incidents, and all personnel are reported safe. Fortunately, there have been no reports of fires on the ships or any environmental damage.
One vessel reported that an IRGC gunboat approached very closely before the firing occurred. These events have reignited concerns regarding security along international maritime trade routes, particularly amidst ongoing instability in the Middle East.
As per reports, a Liberia-flagged container ship sustained damage to its bridge following gunfire and an attack involving rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) northeast of Oman. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) indicated that the ship's captain reported the approach of an IRGC gunboat prior to the shooting.
All crew members aboard the vessel are safe, and there have been no incidents of fire or environmental harm resulting from this event. Maritime security sources noted that three individuals were aboard the gunboat involved in the incident.
The captain of the Greek-operated container ship also mentioned that there was no radio communication prior to the incident, and the vessel had initially been informed that it was permitted to transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
