Shooting Incident in Thane District

In Thane district, Maharashtra, an unknown assailant reportedly opened fire at the office of a candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the early hours, resulting in injuries to a security personnel.

The police provided this information on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the Ambernath area and was captured by CCTV cameras installed outside the office of Pawan Walekar, who is contesting in the Ambernath Municipal Council elections scheduled for December 20.

In light of a public meeting addressed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Ambernath on Wednesday evening, security measures in the area have been heightened. An official reported that around midnight, two unidentified individuals arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly fired three to four shots at Walekar's office, located in a densely populated area of Ambernath.

Upon hearing the gunfire, the security personnel stationed at the office rushed outside, prompting the assailants to reportedly shoot at them as well. An officer from the Ambernath police station stated, “One security guard on duty was injured during the shooting and is currently receiving treatment.”

He further mentioned, “A team has been formed to apprehend the suspects based on CCTV footage and other technical information. A case has been registered against unknown individuals under relevant sections of the law.”

Following the incident, several BJP workers gathered at the Ambernath police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits and strict action against them. Former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar alleged that despite informing the police about the suspects, there was a delay in taking appropriate action. BJP workers staged a protest outside the police station regarding this issue.
