Shocking Twist in Pune Rape Case: Victim's Friend Detained, Selfie Evidence Emerges

Details of the Incident
Pune: Authorities have detained a suspect linked to the alleged sexual assault of a Pune IT professional at her residence. Contrary to her initial claims, the individual was identified as a friend rather than a stranger posing as a delivery person, raising questions about her account of the incident.
According to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the woman had taken a selfie with the suspect and sent a threatening message from her phone.
The 22-year-old victim had reported that a man, masquerading as a courier, entered her apartment in the Kondhwa area while she was alone and assaulted her. She stated that she lost consciousness, and upon waking, the assailant had fled.
Before leaving, the suspect allegedly took a selfie with her phone, capturing part of his face and her back, along with a warning message indicating he would share her images on social media if she reported the crime.
However, upon detaining the suspect, who is a well-educated professional, police discovered that the woman had actually taken the selfie herself, which initially displayed his face clearly before being edited. She also composed the threatening message.
The police confirmed that no chemical substances were used to incapacitate her, as previously suspected. Commissioner Kumar stated, "We are still trying to understand the reasons behind the victim's allegations of rape, and the investigation is ongoing, especially considering her current mental state."
"The investigation into the rape allegation continues," he added.
