Details of the Crime
The tragic event, which occurred on the night of March 24-25, has not only shaken local residents but has also sparked outrage across the state. Initially perceived as a case of rape and murder, the investigation unveiled shocking truths that left many astonished.
Discovery of the Body
On the morning of March 25, police received a tip-off about a girl's body found behind a middle school in Kusumbha village, hidden among bamboo thickets. The discovery sent shockwaves through the area, with locals suspecting rape and brutal murder, leading to widespread anger.
Circumstances of the Girl's Disappearance
Reports indicate that the victim had gone to watch a Mangala procession with her mother on the night of March 24. She subsequently went missing, prompting her family to file a police report expressing concerns about her abduction. Her body was discovered in a field on March 25, igniting various rumors within the village.
Unveiling the Disturbing Truth
Given the severity of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on March 26. During the investigation, it was revealed that the girl's mother, Reshmi Devi, had been consulting a local sorceress, Shanti Devi, regarding her son's physical and mental issues. The sorceress suggested a sacrificial offering of a virgin girl to resolve these problems, to which the mother agreed.
Who Was Involved in the Murder?
The police investigation disclosed that on the night of the incident, the girl was lured to the sorceress's home. There, her mother, Shanti Devi, and Bhim Ram—who had been in an illicit relationship with the mother for the past decade—collaborated to strangle the girl in a bamboo grove. Following the murder, in the name of black magic, inhumane acts were also committed with the body.
Arrests Made
After the SIT's actions, police apprehended the three suspects: Bhim Ram, Reshmi Devi, and Shanti Devi. Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are underway under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigations are ongoing.
Police Disclosure Amid Court Pressure
In response to judicial pressure, police expedited their investigation and revealed the details of the case late Wednesday night, presenting the accused to the media. While the community remains outraged, there is also scrutiny on the police's handling of the situation.
