Shocking Murder Case in Lucknow: Daughter-in-Law Poisoned Mother-in-Law

In a disturbing incident in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a woman has been accused of murdering her mother-in-law by poisoning her food. The victim, 65-year-old Shanti Devi, was allegedly poisoned by her daughter-in-law, Shalini, who had been involved in a romantic relationship with her nephew.

Details of the Crime

The shocking event took place in the Ibrahimganj village of the Kakori police station area. Shalini mixed poison into the bread she prepared for her mother-in-law, leading to Shanti's deteriorating health and eventual death. The police began investigating after Shanti's son expressed suspicions about his wife, prompting Shalini to confess her crime.

During interrogation, Shalini revealed her affair with her nephew, Karan, which her mother-in-law disapproved of. Shanti had previously attempted to prevent their meetings, even trying to poison her with insecticide in her tea ten days prior, but Shanti had not consumed the entire drink.

Poisoned Bread Preparation

Shalini disclosed to the police that on April 5, she had mixed insecticide into the dough to make the bread. She mentioned that her minor cousin's house was nearby, and she would often obtain the poison from him. Karan had allegedly instructed her to eliminate her grandparents before they could be together.

Currently, Karan has gone into hiding following Shanti's death, and the police are actively searching for him. The authorities have exhumed Shanti's body for further investigation.

Background of the Marriage

Shalini had been married to Shanti's son, Manoj Rawat, for four years, and they had a son together. Initially, their marriage seemed stable. However, Karan, who had returned from working in Iraq, developed feelings for Shalini, leading to secret meetings and phone conversations.

Manoj discovered Shalini's infidelity when he caught her talking on the phone. During this time, Karan supported Shalini, and their relationship continued to grow, much to Shanti's dismay.

Suspicion Arises

Manoj became suspicious when he inquired about the leftover bread given to them after Shanti's burial. When he couldn't find it outside, he searched and eventually discovered the poisoned bread hidden inside the house. When questioned, Shalini attempted to mislead him.

A village council was convened to discuss the matter, during which Karan's cousin revealed that Shalini had ordered insecticide twice. When confronted, Shalini claimed it was meant for her grandmother's house, but her story fell apart when Manoj pointed out the proximity of Shanti's home.

Confession and Arrest

Shalini eventually confessed to conspiring with Karan to murder Shanti, stating that she would have killed Manoj as well. Her confession was recorded by witnesses. The police have arrested Shalini, while Karan remains at large, with authorities continuing their search.
