Shocking Kidney Trafficking Ring Exposed in Kanpur
Kanpur Police Uncover Kidney Trafficking Network
Kanpur News: A scandal has emerged from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, that has tarnished the medical community's reputation. The local police have dismantled an organized kidney trafficking gang with connections extending from Nepal to West Bengal and the NCR region. This gang exploited impoverished individuals, extracting their kidneys for a mere pittance and selling them to wealthy clients for millions. Six doctors, who were pivotal to this illicit operation, have been arrested, including Dr. Preeti Ahuja, the owner of Ahuja Nursing Home, who was notably active in several prestigious organizations in the city.
Alongside her was her husband, Dr. Surjeet Ahuja. The police also apprehended two other nursing home owners and partners: Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Narendra Singh, Dr. Ramprakash Kushwaha, and Dr. Kuldeep. Authorities believe these doctors disregarded medical ethics, transforming their hospitals into kidney markets.
Ambulance Driver with Minimal Education at the Helm
The operation was surprisingly managed not by a highly educated individual but by an eighth-grade ambulance driver, Shivam Agarwal. He was the link who lured wealthy patients undergoing dialysis into the idea of receiving a kidney. Using social media platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp, he sought out desperate individuals in need of money. Shockingly, he would reference the legendary Amitabh Bachchan to mentally prepare donors, claiming, "If Amitabh Bachchan can live a healthy life with one kidney, why can't you?" Many innocent people, caught in this emotional trap, agreed to donate their kidneys.
Noida Connection and Dr. Rohit
Investigations revealed that the key player in this network was Dr. Rohit from Noida. He would fly in with his team, arriving in Lucknow before traveling to Kanpur by car. On the night of the operations, all local nursing home staff were sent home, and CCTV cameras were turned off under the guise of maintenance. After conducting the illegal kidney removals and transplants under the cover of darkness, Dr. Rohit and his team would leave the city before dawn. To conceal these illicit activities, they fabricated records, labeling them as 'normal surgeries' or 'stone operations.'
Millions at Stake, Donors Paid Pennies
According to Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, the cost of a kidney transplant package ranged from 60 lakhs to 1 crore rupees, with the impoverished donors receiving only 8 to 10 lakhs. The remaining funds were divided among the doctors, brokers, and hospital owners. This gang had even conducted an illegal transplant on an African woman, with a video of Shivam, the eighth-grade driver, going viral during the treatment.
Life-Threatening Deals and Administrative Negligence
This operation was not only illegal but also life-threatening. A woman died at a Max Hospital in Delhi after complications arose from a transplant in Kanpur. Additionally, there is substantial evidence of a deal involving the kidney of Ayush from Bihar, which was transplanted into Parul Tomar in Meerut. There was also significant administrative negligence, as no concrete action was taken despite receiving inputs in 2025. The police have since sealed the Arohi Hospital and intensified the search for Dr. Mudassir Ali, Dr. Afzal, broker Naveen Pandey, and Vaibhav Mudgal, offering a reward of 25,000 rupees for their capture.
Network Expansion: Connections Reaching Nepal
Investigations by Kanpur police have revealed that this gang's network extends across Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Aligarh, Noida, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and even Nepal. The police are now preparing to create a gang chart to seize the assets of each criminal and ensure they face justice.
