Shocking Incidents of Rape Involving Minors in Basti District

The recent incidents in Basti district, where two minor girls were raped and subsequently became mothers, have left the community in shock. In one case, a 14-year-old girl was lured into a field by a local minor, resulting in her pregnancy. Another incident occurred in the Khodare police jurisdiction, where a 13-year-old girl was assaulted by her own cousin within their home. In both instances, the perpetrators are also minors. Following the victims' complaints, law enforcement registered FIRs and apprehended both suspects, who have been remanded to custody.

The Price of Dignity Set at Just 20 Rupees

The incident in the Khodare area, located on the Basti-Gonda border, is particularly distressing. Here, a 13-year-old girl from the Muslim community was raped by her cousin. When the girl became pregnant and her family approached the accused's relatives for justice, instead of support, the family attempted to settle the matter by valuing the victim's dignity at a mere 20 rupees. Despite this inhumane treatment, the victim gave birth at a medical college and is now facing the responsibilities of motherhood at such a young age.

Denial of Paternity and Societal Stigma

In the second case from the Nagar police area, a local boy assaulted the girl in a field. When the truth emerged after six months of pregnancy, the accused's family outright refused to acknowledge the child. Amid societal taunts and an uncertain future, the girl decided to give birth. Following her delivery at Basti Medical College, she is now nurturing her newborn. Both cases have seen the perpetrators brought to justice under the law.
