Shocking Incident of Child Abuse in Uttar Pradesh: System Fails Victim
A Disturbing Case Unfolds in Ghazipur
In Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, while many families are preparing for the worship of young girls, a horrific incident involving a six-year-old girl has shaken the community. A young man allegedly took the child to a dilapidated site and committed a heinous act of sexual assault. Although the police registered a case, the real challenge began when the victim's family sought medical assistance.
The family arrived at the women's hospital of the medical college around 2:00 PM. Allegations have surfaced that the doctors present failed to address the child's critical condition and instead sent her to the trauma center under the guise of medical legal formalities. Upon reaching the trauma center, the family found no doctors available. Left with no choice, they returned to the women's hospital, but even after hours, no treatment was initiated.
Protests Erupt After 9 Hours of Waiting
Frustrated by the system's indifference, the victim's family and local residents staged a protest outside the women's hospital. As the situation escalated, the local police and district administration were compelled to act. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Vice-Principal of the medical college arrived at the scene, and treatment for the child finally commenced around 10:00 PM, nearly nine hours after the incident.
Heated Exchange Between CMO and Medical College Officials
A heated exchange occurred between the CMO and officials from the medical college. The CMO expressed frustration, stating that the women's hospital had been handed over to the medical college five years ago, yet there has been a persistent lack of care for patients. He warned that if improvements were not made, he would initiate the process to reclaim the hospital and report negligent doctors to the authorities.
Conversely, Neeraj Pandey, the Vice-Principal of the medical college, argued that medical legal cases fall under the jurisdiction of the CMO's centers, which justified sending the child to the trauma center. Additionally, the insensitivity of a female doctor on duty was highlighted, as she repeatedly suggested taking the six-year-old rape victim to a pediatrician, evading responsibility.
