Shocking Incident in Uganda: Father Sets Daughter on Fire Over Religious Conversion

Religion is intended to unite people and provide mental peace. However, its interpretation has often led to horrific acts. A recent incident from Uganda highlights this grim reality, where a father allegedly set his daughter ablaze due to her decision to change her faith. The young woman, who converted from Islam to another religion, faced a brutal attack from her father, who doused her in petrol and ignited the flames.

The victim, 24-year-old Rahema Kyomuhendo, was rushed to the Embel Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition. She suffered severe burns on her abdomen, legs, neck, and back, necessitating extensive medical treatment for at least a month.

Upon her arrival at the hospital, she was in a dire state. Once she regained consciousness, she recounted the horrifying details of her father's actions. Rahema revealed that her father was responsible for the attack, having poured petrol on her before setting her on fire.

Reports indicate that Rahema, who was previously a follower of Islam, decided to embrace Christianity, which is the predominant religion in Uganda, with 84% of the population identifying as Christian.

Upon learning of his daughter's conversion, her father reacted violently, using petrol from their home to carry out the attack. He is reportedly a religious leader within the Islamic community.

Rahema had been staying with her aunt, where she began to explore Christianity through radio broadcasts. Her interest in the faith grew, leading her to contact a pastor friend of her father to facilitate her conversion. When her father discovered this, he subjected her to physical abuse before attempting to kill her by fire on the eleventh day of Ramadan. It's important to note that Uganda is predominantly Christian, with only 14% of the population practicing Islam.
