In 2023, a troubling incident emerged from a village in the Bilsand area of Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh, raising significant local concern. This case involved a widow and her brother-in-law, leading to a police complaint.

The woman reported that her husband had passed away some time ago, and she lived with her daughter. On a Wednesday afternoon, while she was taking a shower in the bathroom, her brother-in-law allegedly climbed over the wall and entered the house. According to her complaint, he entered the bathroom with ill intentions, attempted to assault her, and when she resisted, he reportedly tried to strangle her with her dupatta and slapped her.

Coincidentally, the woman's daughter returned home from school during this ordeal. Hearing the commotion, the accused fled the scene but not before threatening her life. The woman stated that when she attempted to go to the police station, her father-in-law intervened, trying to suppress the matter by assuring her that it would not happen again.

The complaint further alleged that when the woman refused to settle the matter, her father-in-law and brother-in-law physically assaulted her and also attacked her daughter when she tried to intervene. Both men escaped when the noise attracted attention.
