Disturbing Case of Abduction and Assault

Berhampur: In a harrowing incident, two young cousins were reportedly abducted and sexually assaulted by four individuals in Ganjam district, Odisha, as confirmed by local authorities on Friday.

The case emerged after the mother of one of the minors filed a complaint at the Golanthara police station on Thursday evening. Following the report, law enforcement initiated a search operation to apprehend the suspects, according to a police spokesperson.

The victims, aged between 11 and 15, had attended a wedding ceremony on Tuesday night in a nearby village. One of the girls was from the local area, while the other traveled approximately 40 kilometers from her home village.

At least two of the suspects, one of whom was previously acquainted with one of the victims, enticed them away, leading to their disappearance. When the girls did not return home by late evening, their families began searching the vicinity, police reported.

The suspects allegedly transported the minors to a secluded area on motorbikes, where they were held captive and assaulted before being abandoned.

Fortunately, the victims managed to return home early Wednesday morning and shared their traumatic experience with their families, who had been anxiously inquiring about their whereabouts.

In response, the families decided to report the incident to the police. The suspects reportedly fled the village upon learning about the police investigation.

Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M stated that two police teams have been formed to locate the suspects. The police have identified the individuals involved and are working to arrest them promptly.

Additionally, the police have recorded the victims' statements regarding the incident, and medical examinations are currently being conducted, the SP added.
