Odisha News: A startling incident has emerged from Kandhamal district in Odisha. A ninth-grade girl, who resides in a hostel and attends a government high school in the Phiringia block, has reportedly become a mother. The news has caused a stir throughout the district, leading to significant outrage among parents regarding the safety of children. This incident pertains to the Nedipadar High School.

It has been reported that during the school holidays last year, the student returned to her village. While at home, she allegedly came into contact with a young man from her area, which led to her becoming pregnant due to an alleged physical relationship.

After the holidays, the girl returned to the hostel and continued attending school regularly, but her pregnancy went unnoticed for several months. Once the school administration became aware of her condition, they promptly informed her family and sent her home.

Health Concerns for the Student

On March 1, 2026, the student gave birth at her residence. However, her health has reportedly deteriorated significantly following the delivery. The health department and local administration are increasingly concerned about her fragile condition.

The headmaster of the school and the girl's family have filed a formal complaint at the local police station. An FIR has been registered, and a special team has been formed to investigate the matter.

Investigation into the Incident

The police are primarily focusing on two aspects: identifying the young man responsible for the pregnancy and determining any negligence at the school and hostel levels. How did this situation remain hidden from the administration for so long?

Rabinarayan Mishra, the district welfare officer of Kandhamal, has taken a firm stance on the issue. He stated, “This matter has come to the administration's attention, and we have initiated an investigation under the existing regulations. A thorough inquiry will be conducted to ascertain where the oversight occurred in the hostel's supervision. If any negligence is found on the part of the school administration, warden, or any staff member, strict legal action will be taken against them.”

Currently, the investigation will specifically examine the monitoring system of the hostel and the vigilance of the school management.
