Disturbing Assault Case in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Authorities reported that a minor girl was sexually assaulted by a truck driver in the Malkangiri district of Odisha on Tuesday.

According to the girl's family, she had gone to a friend's house for a birthday celebration on Monday evening but failed to return home. Her family grew worried and began searching for her.

Later that night, locals found the girl in a troubling situation on National Highway 326 near Bija Ghati, accompanied by a truck driver.

Concerned citizens quickly alerted the police about the situation.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement rescued the girl and placed her in the care of Shakti Sadan, a local shelter.

The truck driver has been taken into custody, and police are currently questioning him.

The girl's mother has filed an official complaint, prompting the police to register a case.

An investigation is actively ongoing, with more details expected soon.

This incident follows the recent arrest of Udit Pradhan, the President of the Congress Odisha youth wing (NSUI), who was detained by Mancheswar Police in Bhubaneswar for allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old engineering student by spiking her drink with drugs.

Pradhan was arrested late Sunday night after a formal complaint was made by the victim.

Just days prior, on July 19, another minor was set on fire by unidentified assailants in the Banlanga area of Puri district. Fortunately, she managed to escape and sought help from nearby residents.

She was subsequently taken for urgent medical care and is currently receiving treatment for severe burns at Delhi AIIMS, covering 70% of her body.

The victim's mother reported that her daughter was attacked by unknown individuals who attempted to kill her by dousing her with petrol and kerosene.

This brutal attack has prompted swift police action, including the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
