Paradip: An 18-year-old girl was reportedly abducted by two men while she was on her way home with a friend in Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha. The police reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 PM on Monday.
The young woman was returning from a birthday celebration in another village when the attack took place, as detailed in her father's police report.
According to the complaint, she was taken to a nearby field and assaulted, while her friend managed to escape.
Local BJP MLA Amarendra Das stated that law enforcement has initiated a search operation to apprehend the suspects.
"I have communicated with the Superintendent of Police. We will ensure strict measures are taken against those responsible," he remarked.
Pravas Sahoo, the officer-in-charge at Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station, visited the crime scene and retrieved a mobile phone.
The survivor returned home in a state of severe bleeding and was promptly taken to the hospital for urgent medical care.
Authorities are currently interviewing the survivor's friend and her mother for further insights.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of violence against women in the state, leading to protests from opposition parties who claim that the ruling BJP government has failed to uphold law and order.
BJD leader Priyabrat Mohapatra announced, "We will surround the SP office until all perpetrators are brought to justice."
