Balasore: On July 17, a tragic incident unfolded when a 60-year-old man was accused of raping an eight-year-old girl inside a shop located near Madhua Mill Square, according to local police reports released on Saturday.

The situation came to light after law enforcement registered a formal complaint and apprehended the suspect, identified as Sheikh Babu, aged 60, on the same day.

Babu, who resides in the Badakhua area, was subsequently presented in court, where his requests for bail were denied, leading to his remand in judicial custody.

The crime reportedly took place while the young girl was alone in her mother's shop on that fateful day.

The accused allegedly entered the shop and committed the act after finding the girl unattended.

Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation under the supervision of IIC Bijay Kumar Das, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
