This incident took place in Gurudaspur, where a woman had married and moved to her in-laws' home about eight months ago. Initially, everything seemed fine, but soon after, her in-laws began pressuring her for more dowry. According to village head Harpreet Singh, his uncle Harjeet Singh's daughter, Manjeet Kaur, was married to Simran. At the time of the wedding, Manjeet's father provided dowry according to his means, which led the groom's family to agree to the marriage. The wedding was celebrated with great fanfare.
However, following the marriage, Manjeet's in-laws started to harass her for additional dowry. Reports indicate that she faced physical abuse from her in-laws due to these demands. Manjeet's father, Harpreet, mentioned that after the wedding, her in-laws frequently called him, either asking him to take his daughter back or demanding more money as dowry. It is shocking to note that Manjeet's husband, who is employed in the army, pressured both her and her father for dowry.
Neighbors reported that Manjeet's husband had returned home just two days prior. After a confrontation with his wife, he left for duty again. The following day, their daughter called to inform them that her in-laws were assaulting her. She warned that if help did not arrive soon, they might kill her. Hearing this, her father rushed to her in-laws' house.
Upon arrival, he was horrified to find his daughter's lifeless body lying in the lobby of her in-laws' home. Shocked and devastated, he immediately contacted the police, who arrived at the scene, took possession of Manjeet's body, and registered a case against her in-laws. It is reported that since the case was filed, her in-laws have fled the premises.
