Arrests Made in Disturbing Case

In Kendrapara, Odisha, law enforcement officials apprehended four additional suspects on Wednesday linked to the gangrape of a 15-year-old schoolgirl. This brings the total number of arrests in this harrowing case to five.

Earlier, a 29-year-old relative of the victim was taken into custody for allegedly enticing her to a remote area where the assault occurred, involving five men.

The main perpetrator has been identified as Happy Mallick, the victim's paternal aunt.

All five individuals face charges under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Mallick has already been remanded to custody after a local court denied her bail, while the other four suspects are expected to appear in court later today, according to police reports.

Authorities revealed that the assailants recorded the assault on video.

The First Information Report (FIR) indicates that the victim's relative visited her home on Raksha Bandhan (August 9) and proposed a trip to a temple in a nearby village.

However, she was instead taken to an isolated location where four accomplices awaited, leading to the gangrape.

"It appears that the crime was premeditated, with the girl's relative being the primary instigator," stated a police officer.

The suspects allegedly threatened the victim with severe repercussions should she disclose the incident to her family.

The survivor's testimony was documented on Wednesday in the presence of a magistrate, as confirmed by an officer.
