This peculiar situation unfolded in the Ram Colony on Nehru Road, where a widow was robbed in broad daylight on Friday. The woman was home alone when a pair, posing as potential tenants, entered her house and made off with her jewelry.


Victim's Account

The victim, Shakuntala Jain, shared that she lives alone following the death of her husband, Jagdish Jain, about 15 years ago. Her only son, Praveen, works for a private company in Delhi. On Friday afternoon, while she was resting at home, a man and a woman knocked on her door, claiming they were interested in renting a property.


Thinking they might be in need, Shakuntala opened the door. The duo pretended to inspect the house but suddenly attacked her. They snatched a gold chain from her neck and ripped earrings from her ears. They then threatened her, warning that if she reported the incident or contacted the police, they would kill her.


Community Response

Terrified, Shakuntala managed to step outside and inform her neighbors about the robbery. Residents quickly alerted the police. The robbers were captured on the colony's CCTV cameras as they fled the scene. The footage has since gone viral on social media, creating a climate of fear in the area.


Vijay Kumar, the area police chief, stated that a police team was dispatched immediately to the scene. They have contacted the victim and will file a report once a formal complaint is received.
