IAS Officer Caught in Bribery Scheme


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance Department has apprehended an IAS officer on charges of bribery, as reported on Monday. The officer, identified as Dhiman Chakma, who serves as the sub-collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district, was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a local businessman.


According to the department's statement, Chakma had demanded a total bribe of ₹20 lakh, with the ₹10 lakh being the first installment. Vigilance officials set up a sting operation that led to his arrest during the transaction.


Following the arrest, a search was conducted at his official residence, where authorities discovered ₹47 lakh in cash. The officer has since been taken into custody and presented to a local court.


A formal case has been registered against him by the vigilance department.
