Shimla Police Foil Major Heroin Trafficking Attempt, Seize 1.12 Kg of Narcotics

In a significant development in the fight against interstate drug trafficking, Shimla Police have confiscated 1.120 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth nearly ₹6 crore in the international market. A suspected supplier from Haryana was apprehended before the drugs could reach their destination in the state capital.

The suspect, identified as Vijay Kumar, 22, hailing from Narayangarh in Ambala district, was taken into custody by the Shimla Police Special Cell on August 3, following actionable intelligence. Authorities intercepted him at the Shoghi barrier, successfully preventing a substantial heroin shipment from being delivered in Shimla.

Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh reported that the accused had allegedly transported the heroin from Haryana and was en route to the Tara Devi area to deliver the drugs to local associates. Acting on reliable information, the Special Cell monitored the suspect and arrested him before the transaction could occur.

The police seized 1.120 kilograms of heroin, commonly referred to as chitta, from the suspect. A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a thorough investigation is currently in progress.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehar Panwar stated that investigators are interrogating the suspect to trace the heroin's origins, identify the supply chain, and connect it to the broader interstate drug trafficking network.

Ongoing Anti-Narcotics Efforts

This recent seizure is part of a series of significant drug busts conducted by Shimla Police this year. In March, another trafficker from Ambala was arrested near the Shimla bus stand with 288 grams of heroin, and in April, Kumarsain Police confiscated 9.28 kilograms of opium along with ₹12 lakh in cash, resulting in three arrests.

Emphasizing the department's intensified efforts against narcotics, SP Gaurav Singh noted that Shimla Police have seized over 4 kilograms of heroin in 2026, nearly quadrupling the total amount confiscated in the previous two years combined.

In addition to heroin, law enforcement has also seized 14 kilograms of opium, 15 kilograms of charas (hashish), over 5 kilograms of poppy husk, 11.6 grams of LSD, and approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine (Ice). Furthermore, they have eradicated more than one million illegally cultivated cannabis plants throughout the district this year.

Authorities believe that this latest seizure could yield vital information regarding a larger interstate narcotics operation, with additional arrests and recoveries anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
