In an effort to foster a sports culture in Shimla and motivate the youth towards constructive activities while steering them away from social issues like drug addiction, the Shimla Football Premier League 2026 is scheduled to take place from May 24 to May 27 at the Summer Hill Ground. This event is a collaborative effort between the Summer Hill Football Club and the Shyamala Educational Trust.

Dr. Nitin Vyas shared insights about the league, emphasizing that it serves not only as a competition but also as a movement to enhance the sports culture in Shimla and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth. He stated, “Engaging young people in sports is crucial today. A young person who invests time on the field is less likely to veer off into negative behaviors. Sports cultivate discipline, confidence, and teamwork,” he noted.

A total of 14 teams from Shimla will participate, including Summerhill United FC, SUFC B, Sanjauli FC, Shimla FC Under-19, Shimla FC Under-17, Khalini FC, Zangdu FC, Bhattakufar FC, HPU, Sicarios 9, Northwall FC, Boileauganj FC, and Shimla United FC. Additionally, two girls’ teams will also take part, marking a significant advancement in promoting women's football in the region. Organizers believe that increased involvement of girls in sports will positively influence society.

Dr. Vyas pointed out that while Shimla has abundant football talent, it lacks adequate platforms and facilities. “With regular competitions and proper training, players can excel on national and international stages,” he remarked. He also called on the Shimla Municipal Corporation to create playgrounds in every ward and hire qualified coaches to provide structured training for children and youth.

The league champions will receive ₹31,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹11,000 and a trophy. Special accolades will also be presented for Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, and other notable achievements.

Organizers have promised to make special arrangements for both players and spectators to ensure a lively sporting environment. They encouraged youth, sports enthusiasts, parents, and the general public to attend in large numbers to support the teams, thereby helping to strengthen Shimla’s sports culture.

Dr. Vyas expressed optimism that the league will soon become a prominent sporting event in Shimla, providing local youth with a new identity and fostering positive energy within the community.
