Shikhar Dhawan Addresses Speculations Following His Remarriage
Shikhar Dhawan's New Chapter
Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, who recently remarried, has responded to rumors surrounding his personal life. Dhawan tied the knot with Sophie Shine on February 21, marking his second marriage.
The ceremony took place in the Delhi-NCR area, attended by family, friends, and former teammates such as Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and Yuzvendra Chahal. The couple got engaged on January 12, and their wedding followed a month later in an intimate setting.
Dhawan's first marriage to Ayesha Mukherjee in October 2012 ended in divorce, which was finalized by the Delhi Family Court in October 2023 due to mental cruelty. In 2025, Dhawan publicly announced his relationship with Sophie Shine, who hails from Ireland.
Dhawan Responds to False Claims
Shortly after his wedding, Dhawan addressed social media speculation regarding his past. A viral post falsely claimed that his ex-wife, Ayesha Mukherjee, had suggested he would never remarry, implying that his recent marriage was a response to her comment.
In a statement on his X account (formerly Twitter), Dhawan criticized the 'disappointing and false statements' about his life, asserting that he does not carry any emotional baggage from his previous marriage.
He stated, 'I have encountered some posts on social media making disappointing claims about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, whether on the field or off it. I believe in positivity while respecting my history.'
Dhawan's Relationship with His Son
From his first marriage, Dhawan has a son named Zoravar. Following the divorce, maintaining regular contact with Zoravar became challenging for Dhawan, despite having visitation rights. Reports indicate that his ex-wife blocked him from virtual communication, preventing him from speaking to his son for extended periods.
A Call for Positivity
In light of the ongoing speculation, Dhawan urged his followers and the media to refrain from using his name for clickbait and to focus on spreading positivity instead. He emphasized, 'I strongly urge people not to exploit my name with clickbait and false narratives on social media. Let's promote love and positivity.'
He concluded his message with gratitude, saying, 'Thank you!'
Dhawan's Cricketing Legacy
Shikhar Dhawan retired from professional cricket in 2024, concluding a remarkable career that included 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, accumulating a total of 10,867 runs, with 24 centuries and 55 fifties, averaging 39.66 across 269 matches.
Dhawan first met Sophie Shine in a Dubai restaurant, where their friendship eventually evolved into a romantic relationship. Their relationship gained public attention when Sophie attended the Champions Trophy in 2025 with Dhawan.
In May 2025, the couple confirmed their relationship on social media, putting an end to the speculation.
