Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Becomes Laureus Ambassador, Inspiring Future Generations
A New Chapter for a Legendary Athlete
On Monday, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, celebrated as one of the greatest athletes in history and the 2023 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, was introduced as the newest Ambassador for the Laureus movement.
A Legacy of Excellence
Fraser-Pryce boasts an impressive record of three Olympic gold medals and ten World Championship titles, inspiring countless fans globally throughout her remarkable two-decade career. She holds the record for the most global titles won by any sprinter, and her recent 100-meter win at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, achieved after becoming a mother in 2019, made her the oldest athlete to secure a global sprint title.
Impact Beyond Athletics
Outside of her athletic achievements, she founded the Pocket Rocket Foundation, which offers scholarships, mentorship, and support to Jamaican student athletes. Her commitment to leveraging sports for community change aligns perfectly with the Laureus mission, attracting numerous top international athletes to its cause.
First Appearance as Laureus Ambassador
Fraser-Pryce is set to attend the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid on April 20, marking her debut as a Laureus Ambassador. This event will see her return to the Laureus red carpet after receiving six nominations for the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award throughout her career, including her victory in 2023. This year's nominees for the same award feature stars from the 2025 World Athletics Championships, such as Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Faith Kipyegon.
A Commitment to Future Generations
Expressing her excitement, Fraser-Pryce stated, "Laureus has been a significant part of my journey, and I am honored to step into this role as a Global Ambassador, especially as I join the Laureus community in Madrid for the awards. This moment signifies my ongoing dedication to the sport and to the athletes who will follow in my footsteps. My experiences have equipped me with insights into the opportunities and challenges athletes face today, and I am eager to use that knowledge to uplift and empower the next generation to achieve even greater success."
Welcoming a New Ambassador
Sebastian Coe, a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, remarked, "Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the most influential and enduring athletes in modern sports. For nearly two decades, she has set remarkable standards on the track, showcasing not only her athletic prowess but also her grace and resilience. Her dedication to education and opportunities for young people, particularly in Jamaica, aligns closely with Laureus values. We are thrilled to welcome her as a Laureus Ambassador, and I am confident she will significantly contribute to our mission of enhancing young lives through the power of sport."
Joining a Prestigious Group
Fraser-Pryce joins an esteemed group of Laureus Ambassadors—athletes who utilize their influence and passion to advocate for Laureus Sport for Good. Since the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards, notable figures such as Eileen Gu, Jude Bellingham, Simone Biles, and Thiago Alcantara have also become Laureus volunteer Ambassadors.
