Shashi Tharoor Reiterates India's Stance on Terrorism During Panama Visit
Tharoor's Strong Message Against Terrorism
During a visit to Panama, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading a multi-party delegation, reiterated India's unwavering position against terrorism. At an event hosted by the Indian Embassy, he highlighted the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, emphasizing the importance of living without fear. Tharoor stated, “Gandhi taught us to stand up for our rights and principles, and we must not let fear dictate our actions. We are currently fighting against the heinous acts committed by those labeled as terrorists, who believe that their violent actions will serve a greater political or religious purpose.”
Response to Terrorism
Tharoor further asserted that no dignified nation would succumb to such threats, declaring, “Even the land of Mahatma Gandhi will not simply turn the other cheek; we will respond decisively.” He also criticized the Pakistan Army for honoring terrorists killed during India's operations, stating, “When we targeted the terror headquarters, we lost lives, and a funeral was held for those involved. Notably, individuals linked to the United Nations Sanctions Committee were mourned by high-ranking officials from the Pakistani Army and police. This raises questions about their claims of innocence.”
Motives Behind Terror Attacks
Tharoor elaborated on the motivations behind the recent Pahalgam terror attack, suggesting it aimed to destabilize India and harm the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. He remarked, “This act of terrorism aligns with a cynical agenda pursued by the Pakistani military to undermine our nation and the flourishing tourism sector in Kashmir. I was informed by the Indian Ambassador to Washington that Pahalgam attracted more tourists than Aspen, Colorado.”
Delegation Meeting with Panama's President
Earlier on the same day, Tharoor's delegation met with Panama's President, Jose Raul Mulino, at the Presidential Palace. The group included representatives from various political parties, such as Shambhavi Chaudhary from the Lok Janshakti Party, Sarfaraz Ahmed from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and several members from the BJP, including Tejaswi Surya and Bhubaneswar Kalita, along with former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora.
