Shashi Tharoor Leads Delegation to Discuss India's Stance on Terrorism in Guyana
In a recent meeting in Guyana, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor led a delegation to discuss India's approach to terrorism, emphasizing a balanced response to the Pahalgam attack. He clarified that India's actions are purely reactive and not indicative of a desire for prolonged conflict with Pakistan. Tharoor highlighted India's commitment to peace, stating that the country does not fear future attacks and is determined to maintain its resolve against terrorism. The meeting underscored the importance of diplomatic messaging and the unity among communities in India against attempts to incite communal tensions. This event follows the launch of Operation Sindoor, a military response to the recent terrorist attack that claimed numerous lives.

India's Message Against Terrorism
A multi-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met with the Speaker of the National Assembly in Guyana to convey India's stance against terrorism. Following the meeting, Tharoor shared India's response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, stating, "Our government has reacted, but it was done in a very balanced, measured, and precise manner."
Tharoor highlighted New Delhi's strategic intentions behind Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that India's actions were purely reactive and did not indicate a desire for prolonged conflict with Pakistan.
He remarked, "We had no intention of suggesting that this was the beginning of a long war," stressing that "every attack was a response, and each action taken by India was solely in reaction to Pakistan's provocations."

Tharoor emphasized India's consistent diplomatic messaging, stating, "When governments called us to express concerns, we conveyed the same message that we are not interested in war." He noted that if hostilities from Pakistan ceased, there would be no need for India to respond.
He explained that this principled stance ultimately led to a reduction in tensions, adding, "If Pakistan stops, we will have no reason to retaliate, which is why, on the morning of May 10, they reached out to our Director General of Military Operations."

Tharoor reiterated India's commitment to peace, emphasizing that this peace is rooted in strength. He stated, "Today we are at peace, and we wish to remain at peace. This is a strong message, but we want to maintain our peace firmly, as your president said yesterday, not out of fear." He clarified that India is not afraid of future attacks, asserting, "We are not afraid that they will attack us again. If they do, they will face an even harsher response."
Highlighting India's resolve, he stated, "We are determined to express our resolve and want the world to respond, not with fear, but also not with indifference."
Discussing the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, Tharoor pointed out that the terrorists aimed to incite communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims in India, which ultimately failed. He noted, "All communities united in a very cohesive manner. During these four days of conflict, the briefings provided by the Indian government and military included two female officers, one of whom was Muslim, sending a clear message that this is not about Hindu-Muslim issues; it is about terrorism."
On this occasion, the Speaker of the Parliament, Manzoor Nadir, remarked, "Guyana honors India for its democracy and contributions to the Global South." Following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government formed seven multi-lateral delegations to inform countries about Pakistan's ties to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance towards all forms of terrorism.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which resulted in the brutal deaths of 26 individuals.
