Tharoor Expresses Disappointment Over Colombia's Response
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, part of a multi-party delegation, expressed his discontent on Thursday regarding Colombia's sympathy for those killed in Pakistan during India's counterattack on May 7. He emphasized that there can be no comparison between aggressors and defenders.
Tharoor Leads Multi-Party Delegation
Tharoor is leading a multi-national delegation representing five countries. He stated that India was merely exercising its right to self-defense. While in Colombia, he presented images of Pakistani military officials attending the funerals of terrorists following India's strikes on their bases, asserting that the delegation aims to clarify any misunderstandings.
Pakistan Provides Safe Havens for Terrorists
In Colombia, Tharoor remarked, "A well-publicized funeral for a terrorist on the sanctions list took place in Pakistan, attended by senior military and police officials in uniform. This illustrates the collusion between those committing such crimes and those financing, training, and providing safe havens for them."
Details of the April 22 Terror Attack
Leading the all-party delegation, Tharoor recalled the severe terrorist attack on India on April 22. While the world condemned the attack, he noted that no action was taken, not even by Pakistan, the country from which the attackers originated. He stressed that India could not let such aggression go unpunished.
Concerns Over Chinese Military Supplies to Pakistan
Tharoor highlighted that China supplies 81% of Pakistan's military equipment, much of which is intended for offensive operations rather than defense. He acknowledged that while Pakistan has the right to develop its capabilities, India's concern lies with the spread of terrorism against it.
Rejection of Mediation Claims
Tharoor dismissed speculation regarding third-party mediation between India and Pakistan amid recent border tensions, stating that no formal discussions had occurred. He mentioned receiving calls from senior officials in the U.S. and other nations, reiterating India's lack of interest in war and its focus on retaliating against terrorist attacks.
Tharoor's Current Diplomatic Mission
Currently, Tharoor is leading a multi-national delegation in Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and the United States, aiming to highlight Pakistan's connections to terrorism, including the 9/11 attacks, and asserting that recent conflicts stemmed from the Pulwama terrorist attack, not from Operation Sindoor.
