Shashi Tharoor Addresses Terrorism Concerns During US Delegation Visit

Father-Son Exchange Highlights Terrorism Discussion
During an all-party delegation aimed at conveying India's firm stance against terrorism, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor encountered a direct question from his son, Ishaan Tharoor, a foreign affairs columnist for a prominent media outlet. This interaction took place at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on Thursday, where Ishaan humorously questioned whether he should be allowed to ask his father anything since he is his son.
The light-hearted moment elicited laughter from the audience, showcasing their close relationship. Tharoor, displaying his fatherly side, encouraged Ishaan to speak up when he struggled to hear him. Ishaan greeted his father with a casual 'Hey' and mentioned he was primarily there to say hello before Tharoor moved on to his next engagement.
Ishaan inquired if any country had requested evidence regarding Pakistan's involvement in the Pahalgam attack, especially in light of Pakistan's consistent denials. Tharoor clarified that he was pleased Ishaan raised this question, emphasizing that no nation had sought evidence from India, as there were no doubts about Pakistan's role. He asserted that India would not have undertaken this delegation without substantial proof of Pakistan's involvement in the terror incident.
Tharoor elaborated, stating, 'No one had any doubt, and we were not asked for evidence. However, the media has raised this issue in a few instances. Let me be clear: India would not have acted without convincing evidence. There are three key reasons I want to highlight. First, we have a long history of terror attacks from Pakistan, accompanied by their repeated denials.'

Tharoor further emphasized the pattern of Pakistan's behavior, referencing past terror attacks and their habitual denials. He pointed out that Pakistan often sends terrorists and only acknowledges their involvement when caught. He remarked, 'Americans haven't forgotten that Pakistan allegedly didn't know where Osama bin Laden was until he was discovered in a safe house near an army camp. That's Pakistan for you. They denied involvement in the Mumbai attacks as well... We understand their modus operandi; they will dispatch terrorists and deny it until they are caught red-handed.'
