Sharad Pawar Urges Safety Measures After Local Train Tragedy in Maharashtra

Tragic Incident on Local Train
Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), expressed his sorrow over the unfortunate deaths of passengers who fell from a local train. He urged the Central Railway authorities to implement measures such as automatic doors in local trains to address overcrowding issues.
On Monday morning, at least four passengers lost their lives and six others sustained injuries after falling from a moving train in Thane district, Maharashtra. The incident occurred between Diva and Kopar railway stations while the train was en route to Kasara.
The accident likely resulted from passengers hanging off the crowded train's steps, colliding with each other and their bags as two trains passed in opposite directions. Pawar took to social media to emphasize the need for the Central Railway to improve scheduling and increase the frequency of local trains on critical routes to enhance passenger safety. He stressed that immediate measures are essential to prevent such incidents, including the timely implementation of automatic doors in local trains.
He also mentioned that some passengers are currently receiving treatment in the hospital and expressed his hopes for their swift recovery. The former Chief Minister of Maharashtra pointed out that an average of six to seven passengers fall from local trains daily on the Central Railway network.
Pawar highlighted that the increasing crowding in local trains is a significant factor contributing to these tragedies. He stated that blaming passengers for their deaths after such incidents is unjust, urging the Central Railway administration to take this unfortunate event seriously.
